trying to save $$$ doesn't always work :<(

On Sat., my husband & I went to House of Stitches. I FINALLY got to use my gift certificate from Christmas. While I was having a piece of fabric cut, he was looking at patterns. He showed me one he thought I would like. I laughed & told him I had it at home, along with the other 3 in the series! He said he would like to make the frames for them! I said sure!!! So, when we got home, I found the patterns & started kitting up the projects. Well, they call for GAST & WDW. I have some of these, but not enough of some of the colors. So....I found a substitition chart & did that.
On Sunday, I started the fawn...he told me to do #1 first so that is where I started....
I have worked & worked on it & I have it real close to finished as you can see............BUT...........
I am not happy with it, compared to the real pattern..as you can see, they look real different.
So....I am going to finish this one, but will be doing it again, with the GAST & WDW floss...
Lesson learned!!!
I am also attaching a picture of my violet plants! My mom gave me a second plant while we were up there on Sat....isn't it gorgeous????? I sure hope I can keep them alive!!! My husband is going to make a proper stand for them!!!!!
have a great day.....stay tuned...I MUST update my sale blog later today.......

I see what you mean, and would probably feel the same if I were stitching this piece, but I also think it may be fine once you get the white added for contrast. We shall see - just keep sharing, please, because I want to know for sure, lol!

Love those patterns, you Violets are beautiful. I grew a lot of those at our last home, they don't do so well where I am now.

Sometimes their conversions work great, and sometimes not so much. I think it will be all right though :)

I hear you - the conversions aren't always 'on'. Sometimes I just pull colors that look good together. I can be so lazy.

Can't wait for DH to make you some frames. When is that birthday?

Lucky you with a hubs who actually can and wants to make frames:) Pretty posies, like your finish, you're right about conversions, some designers even say the same on their charts.

Love your linen, plz describe for those of us who need to know every detail? xoxo

Yeah, I can see what you mean with the differences in the fawns. Could you use a lighter color brown in DMC, maybe? Pretty violets.

Will be a lovely finish, regardless, although I do see what you mean. Some things are just better done in the over dyed fibers.

Love your african violet acquisitions! I need to get one or two, I just love them!

I love the fabric. So pretty.

I love the fabric you had used for the design though. Perhaps when you finish the whole design it might looks better with the dark colour.

Lovely violets!!

Lovely patterns! Reminds me of my "Button Up Birdies" charts. I am working on one now.

At least you're going to finish it Shari--you never know how it might look when it's all done. Today I actually totally gave up on a piece I was working on because the colors just weren't working with the fabric I chose. Luckily, it was a small project and I only had the border and a bit of the design stitched.

Your violets are beautiful! Spring is coming (but I hear we might get more snow on Thursday--ugh!)...

Don't forget Shari, that you won't have the pattern and your lovely finished piece side by side when yours is framed and up on the wall! Look forward to the complete finish!

Your could just consider this a brunette fawn, that might work? Really, I am sure you are frustrated with the differences, I have had that issue myself before.

I have quite a collection of Carrie's floss and I frequently sub out the more expensive WDW for the Carries. There isn't a conversion chart typically. I just eyeball it to get the shade I want. Browns are tough and so are greens, there are so many choices and shades! Sometimes it takes me hours to find the color I want! That's why I like SB&B's, I can see the original color and then go hunt down the cheaper Carries color! LOL

Hi Shari,
that fawn is too cute, I have one like that too, I think it's the squirrel, having said that now, I am not even sure where it is...omg I need to get organized with my stuff so badly lol.....
Thanks for stopping by my blog. Triplet grandchildren, wow, my hat off to the parents....I know how much work two were, but three can't even imagine, afterall one only has two hands and arms. I guess I have to dig deeper into your blog to read more about them. :)
Have a great day today!

Wow, there's quite a difference there! Yours looks great though, and how sweet that your hubby wants to make frames :-)
